Kieren Jack admits he’s been keeping an eye on the Swans’ cross-town rivals GWS in their inaugural season.

The speedy midfielder said after facing a relative unknown Giants team in the first round, he now knows what to expect of GWS ahead of Sydney Derby II this weekend.

“We know a little bit more about the Giants now,” Jack told SwansTV.

“They’re just on the other side of the border so you’re always looking to see how they’re going.

“I think round one was a bit of an unknown, but they’re a pretty good side and the things they value like contested ball and hardness are a couple of things we value as well.”

According to Jack, he’s not the only one with a heightened interest in GWS, with more and more Sydney-siders developing an interest in the Sydney Derby.

“Certainly growing up the Swans were the number one team, but there wasn’t much exposure in the media about it and not a lot of kids at school knew much about AFL,” he said.

“Having two teams only adds to the growth and the interest and it’s great if you’re a young kid now coming through you can turn on the TV every week and watch a live game of Sydney or GWS.

“I think it’s great for AFL in Sydney.”

In what has been named by some as the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ and the ‘Sydney Showdown’, Jack said Saturday night’s second Sydney Derby will also be a chance for fans to show their true colours.

“We’re hoping that we get a lot of Swans fans out there to show we are Sydney’s team, and it will be a good occasion,” Jack said of this Saturday night’s Derby at ANZ Stadium.

“We’ve also got to come out on Saturday night ready to play and I think our boys will be ready for the challenge and we’re looking forward to it.”

He also urged fans to get their creative juices flowing and think up a new name for the crosstown clash.

“I think our fans can come up with something better than the Sydney Derby,” he said.
