General Manager of Football Tom Harley has provided an update on a number of players as the 2015 AFL Trade Period progresses.

Callum Sinclair
“Callum Sinclair was a player that we had an interest in, he was contracted at West Coast but when an opportunity presented itself we were interested. We are absolutely rapt with Callum and wish Jets all the best in Western Australia. With where the game is heading ruckman who can play multiple roles become really important and that is what we think Callum can do. He was a mature aged rookie when he ended up on West Coast’s list and he can play forward as well as around the ground. We think that he will compliment Kurt Tippett as our ruck combination heading into the season.

Steve Johnson
“We have not spoken to him in any meaningful dialogue. He spent some time with the Giants yesterday and is weighing up his playing future first and foremost and then coaching opportunities as well. We are not in a position at the moment to do anything with Steve. Steve and I have a relationship that obviously stems a long way back so we have been in conversation but not in a meaningful playing contract offer stage by any stretch of the imagination. A few things would need to line up for us at the moment.”

Paul Seedsman
“We have spoken to Paul and I think he would be a good fit for our club. We think he is a really smooth ball mover, kicks the ball well and breaks the lines. I know there are a number of clubs that are pursuing Paul so we would absolutely be delighted if he came to join us. A bit like Steve a few things for us would need to line up and they are not imminent or we can say with any certainty that it would happen so we have interest in Paul and that is probably where it sits at this stage.”

Craig Bird
“We have been open and honest with Craig. He is a contracted player and we have said that if there was an opportunity for him we would explore it. We are certainly not shopping him around agrresively and there hasn’t been any movement at this point in time. He is with us, is contracted and we are happy with that as he is a very popular member of the team. If an opportunity presented itself that he was up for and we were up for we would look at it but it is not at that point now.

Luke Parker contract
“We are well underway with negotiations with Ned (Luke’s manager). We don’t envisage and hope that there are no issues with a contract extension. He comes out of contract at the end of next year. He is one of those players at a footy club that you build your club around, he has great leadership credentials and he puts himself in the right place when the game is on the line. Things are tracking really well and we would love to get something done with him before Christmas.

Michael Talia
“We have had discussions about Michael internally and with his manager Liam Pickering as he looks like leaving the Western Bulldogs. A bit like what I said with Steve Johnson a few things would have to line up for things to happen. There is a fair bit of water to go under the bridge before we would have a further conversation about Michael Talia.”
