Dual Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes has been recalled to the senior line-up for Saturday’s encounter with the Western Bulldogs.

On the back of two impressive appearances for the Swans’ NEAFL side, Goodes headlines three inclusions for Saturday’s Round 5 clash at the SCG with Tom Mitchell and Dean Towers also back in the senior fold.

Isaac Heeney (ankle), Ben McGlynn (omitted) and Harry Cunningham (omitted) are out of the side that lost to Fremantle in Perth.

Senior coach John Longmire said Goodes, who has played two matches in 2015, had shown enough to warrant a recall.

“He’s played the last couple of weeks in our reserves team due to a combination of minutes required and form and he’s been working on those two things over the last couple of weeks,” Longmire said.

“He feels as though he’s feeling good enough to come back into the senior team this week and we think he’s got a role to play for us in our senior team.”

“We are looking forward to him having a good game.”

In a reward for strong performances in the NEAFL, Mitchell will play his first senior game since Round 20 2014.

“Tom has been working really hard over the pre-season and the first few weeks in the Reserves,” Longmire said.

“He has been working on the things he needs to work on and improving every week so he deserves his opportunity this week”.

Towers returns after being substitute in Round 3 against the Giants before travelling to Perth as an emergency against Fremantle last weekend.

“Dean played a couple of weeks ago against Port Adelaide, kicked a couple of goal and was probably a bit unlucky to go out of the team,” Longmire said.

Longmire noted fierce competition for spots plus a small injury list made for tough day at the office for the match committee.

“It is a challenge to make sure you get that mix right every week at the selection table but it is good for those blokes to get reward for effort,” Longmire said.

“It is good to see some of these players getting reward for effort but it is now about applying it at senior level.”

The club will take a cautious approach with Heeney after the youngster was subbed out in the third quarter of Saturday night’s loss to the Dockers with a sore ankle.

Heeney was cleared of any serious concerns during the week but the match committee will rest the exciting youngster with plenty of football on the horizon.

McGlynn will line up in the NEAFL side on Saturday after an injury interrupted pre-season campaign before being a late inclusion to the Round 3 team that defeated Greater Western Sydney.
