Josh Kennedy, Lance Franklin and Isaac Heeney have been nominated for the AFL Players Association Most Valuable Player Award.  

The trio have been voted as the most influential by their teammates and will now vye for the title alongside 54 players from across the competition.

The winner of this prestigious award will be announced on Thursday night.

The award has been won by the Swans just once previously when Gerrard Healy took out the honour following his standout 1988 season.

Nominations for the MVP award is a two-stage process – the first is players nomination three teammates for the award, the second is three nominations from each club are presented to the wider playing group for a final vote on the winner.

Players cannot vote for their own teammates during the second stage of the process.

Fresh from his breakthrough first season at AFL level key forward Tom McCartin has been nominated for the Best First Year player, an award won previously by Heeney and Callum Mills.

Heeney has also been nominated for the Most Courageous award, previously won by Luke Parker in 2015 and 2016.

Kennedy is among the contenders for the 2018 Best Captain to be announced on the night after a standout season in charge of the Swans.

The winners will be announced at the AFL Players’ MVP Awards on Thursday 30th August at 191 Collins Street in Melbourne.
