Sydney Swans Redback members celebrated the start of the new season last night at the annual cocktail party held at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Recently retired Swans champion Jude Bolton hosted the evening, which was attended by over 150 Redback members plus the playing group.

On the night, Swans Chairman Andrew Pridham thanked the Redback members for their contribution to the club while a few players were called on stage to talk about the season ahead.

Swans co-captain Kieren Jack echoed the Chairman’s address and officially welcomed the Redback members to the exclusive event.

“You’re an integral part of this team, your loyal commitment and your generous contribution does not go unrecognised,” Jack said.

“We love having you here at this club, that’s why we put on a night like this as recognition for that.

“It’s great to see so many familiar faces every year come along … for the new guys that are here tonight you’ll build a relationship with these members and they go along the journey with you.

“This year we’ve got 40 new Redback members which is great, it takes our total to 216 which is a great show of support. We want to continue to build it and grow it together.

“While it was a hiccup on the weekend, we’ve certainly reviewed the match and all eyes are on Collingwood in Round 2 – and I know the boys are out to redeem themselves.”

One of the great advantages of being a Redback member is that they get to sponsor a player for the upcoming season.

On the night, the Redback members met their sponsored player, found out more about them and posed for a few photos.

While being interviewed on stage along with some of his teammates, Ted Richards used the opportunity to thank all Redback members on behalf of the players and the club.

“We’re not one of the big teams in Melbourne where you can just put on a show and assume people will turn up,” Richards said.

“We’ve got a great fan base here but it’s by no means as big and as profitable as other clubs, but we’ve got you - our loyal members - and we really appreciate what you do.

“You’ve stuck with us through hard times and we’re grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you out there at our games this year, starting with Collingwood next Saturday night.”
