Sydney Swans forward Sam Reid will miss at least the next six weeks after re-injuring his left quadriceps during the first quarter of Sunday’s match against Melbourne at the MCG.

Reid was playing his first game since suffering a quad tear during the round nine win over Collingwood.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said the club was disappointed that the 21-year-old would face another stint on the sidelines.

“The new tear is a lower grade tear to what Sam initially suffered against Collingwood five weeks ago, however, given he has re-injured it, we will need to be very conservative with his rehabilitation,” Longmire said.

“Sam has worked so hard to get himself right over the past month, so it’s certainly disappointing for him that he is going to spend another extended period on the sidelines.

“He is a fantastic young player and all going well, we look forward to having him available for selection later in the year.”
