In his first year at the club, young forward Tim Membrey showed his talents in front of goal week after week for the Swans Reserves.

The 19-year-old, who arrived at the club via pick 47 in the 2012 National Draft, kicked 47 goals for the season and was a stand out in the Swans Reserves’ NEAFL Grand Final loss to the Brisbane Lions, where he kicked five goals.

Speaking to sydneyswans.com.au about his season, Membrey said defence rather than offence would be his focus going forward.

You arrived at the club this year. What did you make of your first season at the club?

I had a really good year and really enjoyed meeting a new bunch of boys, all who are really good fellas.

Individually I think I’ve really learnt a lot this year. Coming from TAC Cup and going to a full-time job, you do take a lot of things on board and it’s been a big year, but I’ve really felt that I’ve taken all the good things on board.

What are some of the things you’ve learnt this year?

I guess the massive focus has been defence for me and my football to go further. All the chasing and tacking and doing all the little things you can, so I’ve just been trying to work on those things as well as spoiling and second and third efforts.

On the other side of your game, your goal kicking has been very good. You must be happy with that part of your game.

The coaches know that that’s a strength of mine, my goal kicking. They’ll be happy that I’m kicking goals, but they’ll be more happy to see me lay tackles and chase and really put the pressure on, so I guess that’s going to be a big focus for me going forward.

What have been some of your highlights this season?

I guess right at the start of the year it was walking into the locker rooms and seeing players like Adam Goodes, Ryan O’Keefe, Jarrad McVeigh and Jude Bolton, that was a big highlight.

Who has helped you out this year?

Nick Davis has worked pretty closely with me throughout the year with goal kicking and just going through my tape, and Henry Playfair as well. I’ve been doing a bit of work with him and have been going through a bit of vision.

What are your plans for the off-season?

I’ll get home, rest up and I’m also going over to Bali with a couple of the boys so it should be good. I’ll then get back and then really hook into a good pre-season and come back in good shape.
