ADAM GOODES will need to train the house down in the club's final session to gain a spot in the Sydney Swans side to meet Carlton in Saturday night's semi-final at ANZ Stadium.

Swans skipper Jarrad McVeigh told SEN on Thursday that he was unsure whether the dual Brownlow medalist, who hasn’t played since round 13 because of a knee injury, would get up in time for the knock-out final.

"He'll have to train today and train well," McVeigh said.

"He's a champion but will have to train well and pull up well."

McVeigh also faces fitness concerns with his knee appearing to buckle late in last Friday's qualifying final loss to Hawthorn.

"I'll train today and tick a few boxes and I should be right to go," the Swans’ captain said.

McVeigh admitted to a few concerns when he first suffered the injury, but said he was fortunate to have fallen to the ground in a tackle. Had he held his ground, the injury may have been worse.

The Swans will be playing angry this week, according to McVeigh.

"We were embarrassed with the way we played and finished off," he said.

He also expressed confidence that the Swans could continue to go into matches with the tall forward structure it has carried for most of the year.
