THE SYDNEY Swans have vowed to return to their hard-nosed, pressuring best following Saturday's "deflating" loss to Greater Western Sydney.

Midfielder Dan Hannebery - one of his team's best in the 36-point defeat - said the Swans would wake up on Sunday morning with a positive mindset to tackle next weekend's semi final.

Hannebery was brutally honest in his assessment of the loss, telling AFL.com.au the Giants were "harder than us".

"I thought we didn't tackle well enough around the whole ground, but especially in our forward 50, we didn't lock it in," Hannebery said.

"We missed targets, we fumbled - they were harder than us.

"And on the flipside, they capitalised on our mistakes.

"We were outplayed in a number of areas."

Although disappointed with the performance, the All Australian said he had full confidence the Swans would rebound next weekend.

He said there was no magic formula, just hard work.

The Giants won the tackle count 96-64 and terrorised their more fancied rivals in close quarters with some bone-jarring contact.

The Swans were flustered, with third quarter turnovers in the defensive 50 from Ben McGlynn and Nick Smith (via an Isaac Heeney slip) leading directly to Giants goals.

"It's pretty deflating," Hannebery said.

"I've got full confidence a lot of the guys tonight, that they'll bounce back next week and play the footy we know they're capable of playing.

"We've just got to stick at what works for us - be hard and pressure really well.

"At the end of the day our desire, our will to win, will to compete, we need to make sure we have 22 blokes willing to do that next week and that's the starting point.

"If we do that, I give us a really good chance."
