Sam Reid is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks with Achilles soreness which flared up at training late last week.

The Swans forward, who lined up in the opening two rounds of the season, was ruled out of last Saturday’s round thee match against the Adelaide Crows and will miss the Swans’ clashes with North Melbourne and Fremantle over the next fortnight.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told the HCF Injury Update that Reid’s condition would be closely monitored by the club’s medical team.

“Sam’s had a bit of minor Achilles soreness, which he’d been managing OK but last week at training he just experienced an increase in pain in his Achilles,” Cameron told SwansTV.

“Scans showed an increase in damage in his Achilles, so that’s something we’ve just got to manage to ensure it fully settles down.”

Cameron said Reid would not train this week, but would hopefully begin running again next week.

“He’s not running at the moment and we’re going to hold that off until next week and he’s going to be out for at least two weeks,” he said.

“We’re really hopeful that it’s not going to be an extended period.”

Craig Bird, who was also ruled out of last Saturday’s match with calf soreness, will face a test ahead of Sunday’s round four match against North Melbourne.

Cameron confirmed that Bird’s condition had improved over the weekend, with the 25-year-old expected to join training at the SCG on Wednesday.

“His calf was a bit sore towards the end of the week and he had a bit of back soreness as well so we decided to remove all risk and let him freshen up,” he said.

“Now he’s feeling good and he’s expected to train tomorrow with the team.”

Kurt Tippett and Tommy Walsh will also join the main session on Wednesday morning, while Adam Goodes is expected to complete his first session in over two months on Friday.

“Tommy Walsh started training last week so now he’s back training with the full team,” Cameron said.

“Kurt, as well, did a little bit last week and will be training with the team on Wednesday and then Adam will do his first session on Friday.

“Adam hasn’t trained really since January with the team, but it certainly feels like perhaps longer than that, so it will be good to see him with the footy boots on and out on the SCG.

“It’s all full steam ahead with those three.”
