The Sydney Swans reserves have atoned their tight early season loss to UWS with a commanding 75-point win at ANZ Stadium on Friday evening.

After dominating possession in the early stages of the match, the Swans trailed at the first break after not capitalising on time spent in the forward half, before UWS kicked the final three goals of the first term through Sumner, Stewart and Barrett.

From that point on through, it was all the Swans, as the hosts powered home to kick the final 13 goals of the game and shut out the UWS forwards, holding them goalless for the final three quarters and scoreless in the last term.

Tim Membrey sparked into action in the second term, booting two quick goals and presenting hard from the forward 50-metre arc. He eventually finished as the leading goalkicker on the ground with four majors, displaying his deadly finishing from range either via set shot or open play.

Dean Towers was also an important member of the Swans attack, kicking two goals and was unlucky not to have a few more, while Lewis Roberts-Thomson put in a solid shift across the ground and got rewards with a couple of majors.

The Swans engine room worked hard throughout the full four quarters, continually launching precise attacks and putting the UWS backline under pressure. Dual premiership player Ryan O’Keefe led the way for the Swans picking up 36 touches, while Dan Robinson (32 touches, including 20 in the first half, and a goal), Matthew Dick (31) and Lloyd Perris (30 and two last quarter goals) were able deputies in the second half onslaught. While Tom Mitchell's numbers weren’t as high as the others, his pressure around the ball and quick hands to release the runners were also important.

At the defensive end, Gary Rohan relished the chance to run at the ball, laying several effective spoils and consistently hitting targets further up the field. Aliir Aliir looked comfortable either closing down his direct opponent or floating across the backline and being involved in the switch of play.

Tommy Walsh got through his first game since tearing his hamstring off the bone 343 days ago. Playing as a key forward, Walsh didn’t see a lot of the ball, but enjoyed the run out and set up a goal each for Membrey and Perris.

The Swans now move a game ahead of UWS on the ladder and are within one game of competition leaders, NT Thunder, and hold a superior percentage.

The reserves are next in action next Saturday afternoon at Manuka Oval against old adversaries Eastlake.
