After spending seven weeks on the sidelines, Dan Hannebery said he could not be more ready to get back out on the park for Saturday night’s sell-out clash against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The 23-year-old, who missed the last six matches with an ankle syndesmosis injury suffered in the Swans’ round 13 clash against the Power, completed full training this week and has been cleared to play this weekend in Adelaide.

Speaking to SwansTV ahead of his first game in almost two months, Hannebery said Saturday’s match could not come quickly enough.

“It’s great to be back,” Hannebery told SwansTV.

“It’s obviously a long time to be out and you don’t want to miss any time at any stage of the year, let alone six weeks.

“I’m sure there will be a few cobwebs early, but if anything after a few weeks out I’ll be feeling pretty fresh.

“I’m just really keen and am looking forward to getting back out there and getting back with the boys again.”

It’s been a frustrating wait for Hannebery, who worked his way into some impressive form after a slow start to the season, with the midfielder collecting 30 possessions or more in five of his last seven matches before suffering the injury.

Hannebery admitted that his rehab stretched out for a longer period of time than he initially thought, but said he was grateful to the club’s medical staff for getting him back for this weekend’s big clash.

“Obviously it’s been a little while and was probably a week or two longer than I would have thought, but it’s great that the fitness staff were able to get me on a good program,” he said.

“It’s frustrating because you want to be out there winning and playing well with the other boys, but it gives you a bit of a different perspective.

“I’ve been pretty lucky with injury up until this point in my career with missing footy, so I suppose it was a different experience, but I definitely prefer being out there on the ground though.

“The fitness guys did a really good job in trying to get my ankle up to scratch and it’s feeling good and I can’t wait to get out there this week.”

Hannebery will return to the field alongside Lance Franklin on Saturday night, who missed last week’s game against Essendon with knee soreness.

With Kurt Tippett and Rhyce Shaw also returning from their respective injuries in recent weeks, Hannebery said it was exciting to be able to have so many senior players fit and available at this point of the season.

“Buddy missed that one week with a knee injury, which was disappointing for him, but he looked really good at training (on Thursday) so he’ll be fine,” he said.

“It’s great to be able to get all the boys back from their injuries, and Rhyce played really well last week and Buddy trained well today and hopefully we can just get some good form up and play the sort of footy we want to play.”

With 50,000 fans expected at Adelaide Oval this weekend against a Port Adelaide side determined to bounce back from their narrow loss to Collingwood last week, Hannebery said the Swans would need all of their players firing to come away with the four points this week.

“The Power are a super running side and are a pretty contested, hard-running side, so we’re expecting them to be really fired up,” he said.

“They’ve had a pretty good year and they’ve obviously had a few down weeks, which they won’t be happy about, but we know they’re a quality football side.

“Their midfield really got on top of us last time and we know that when they are playing at their best, they are one of the best sides in the comp.

“We know they are going to be fired up and there will be 50,000 fans at Adelaide Oval, so it’s going to be a huge game.”
