Lance Franklin and Mike Pyke look set to return for Saturday’s qualifying final against Fremantle at ANZ Stadium, while Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn and Craig Bird will need to prove their fitness in the lead up to the match.

Franklin, who was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s match against Richmond with knee soreness, trained with the team on Tuesday afternoon and was unrestricted leading for the ball and kicking for goal.

Speaking to SwansTV for the HCF Injury Update, club physiotherapist Tim Needham said all signs were looking good for ‘Buddy’ to return.

“Lance pulled out with some minor knee soreness before the game,” he said.

“He’s looking pretty good and he’s improved, so we’re hopeful that he’ll be available.

“He just has to get through training this week.”

Needham also confirmed that Mike Pyke would be available for Saturday afternoon’s final, after missing the Swans’ clash with the Tigers with illness.

“Mike seems to have bounced back pretty well from his illness,” he said

“We expect him to fully train and be available for selection as well.”

Kennedy, McGlynn and Bird all took part in Tuesday’s training session, with Kennedy and Bird completing running programs and McGlynn training with the main group.

Needham said the midfield trio had all made significant progress heading into this weekend’s match, and would be available for selection should they get through Thursday’s final training session at the SCG.

“Josh is coming back from a minor hamstring issue,” he said.

“He’s been running and going through the steps in rehab, so we’re hopeful that he’ll get through training and if he can get through training he should be available to play.

“Benny has had a calf issue and he’s been working on his strength and running.

“Like Josh, he’s shaping up well to train on Thursday and if all goes well he’ll be available for selection.

“Craig has had an issue with his knee and he’s been running and feeling pretty good.

“He’s going to train this week as well, and like the others, if all goes well he’ll be available.”

Brandon Jack will also face a fitness test ahead of the Swans reserves preliminary final this week, after battling an ankle injury for the last two weeks.

“Brandon has had a bit of a rest with no NEAFL game over the weekend,” Needham said.

“His ankle is improving, so he just needs to take the steps of training with the group this week and if that goes well he should be available.”
