The Harbour City put on a perfect day for the Sydney Swans open training session on Tuesday, with more than 2000 fans turning out to the SCG to cheer on the team ahead of Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.

Red and white fans young and old filled the stands for the special training session, which allowed supporters to capture one last glimpse of the Swans before the team travels to Melbourne on Thursday for Saturday’s decider.

The fans cheered as the team emerged one by one from the Paul Kelly Race, with Adam Goodes and co-captains Kieren Jack and Jarrad McVeigh earning big receptions.

Gary Rohan, Ted Richards, Josh Kennedy and Nick Malceski were also among the fan favourites, with the group dedicating time to sign autographs and pose for photos before heading out to train.

As expected, the biggest cheer was saved for Lance Franklin, who was greeted with a ‘Buddy’ chant from the stands as he jogged onto the SCG to join his team mates.

Once on field, the Swans completed a light session, with the majority of the squad taking part in kicking and handball drills before moving into modified match play.

Dan Hannebery, Mike Pyke and Ben McGlynn enjoyed lighter sessions, while Sam Reid, who is expected to be fit to play after suffering a minor knee injury in last week’s preliminary final win, trained lightly as well.
