Christmas has come early for the Sydney Swans, with the club’s membership tally ticking over 20,000 on Friday morning.

It is the fastest the club has reached 20,000 members, beating the previous record which was set last pre-season.

Speaking to sydneyswans.com.au about Friday’s milestone, Swans coach John Longmire said he was thrilled to see so many passionate fans already committed to the club for the new season.

“It’s fantastic,” Longmire said.

“It’s the fastest we’ve ever reached that milestone, and to have 20,000 members pre-Christmas is outstanding.

“It’s a great foundation for the club to build on for next year.”

New members make up 10 per cent of this year’s count so far, while 92 per cent of all members have secured game-access membership either in Sydney or interstate.

The most popular membership package has been Platinum 11 and Gold 11 Reserved Seat memberships, while the Premiership Club upgrade - which guarantees a ticket to the AFL Grand Final should the club qualify - has also been a popular selection.

In addition to the 20,000 members, there are also 68 pets that have showed their commitment to the red and white as 2015 pet members.

With the Reserved Seat deadline fast approaching on Thursday December 18, Longmire said he was confident that even more fans would sign up as members before the Christmas break.

“There are still a few days before Christmas to go, which is good, but to already have those members committed and to be able to look forward to next year is something that is just fantastic,” Longmire said.

“We’re really excited, particularly from a football team and football department point of view.

“We hope to see even more members jump on board before Christmas.”
