Swans midfielder-forward Ben McGlynn has been ruled out of Friday night’s clash against Richmond.

Hoping the 13-day break would work in McGlynn’s favour, the Swans medicos have opted against putting McGlynn’s name in the mix for the Round 13 blockbuster at the SCG.

General Manager of Football Tom Harley says taking a conservative approach is the right way to go for the on-baller.

"We were hoping he'd have the week off and get up for this week, that scenario is looking unlikely at this stage," Harley confirmed for the HCF Injury Update.

"He'll have another week out of the side but by the time he's ready he'll be right to go."

In some brighter news, veteran defender Heath Grundy has been given the all clear after suffering a minor knee injury in the Swans’ Round 11 clash with North Melbourne.

The 29-year-old has shrugged off all concerns - benefiting greatly from the week off - and is expected to play.

"Heath is a great example of the benefits of having a bye mid-year," Harley added.

Isaac Heeney continues to make swift progress on his comeback trail from a PCL injury.

The first-year recruit is expected to line up for the Swans’ in Friday's NEAFL curtain-raiser against Sydney Uni.

It will be the first competitive hit out for the 19-year-old since suffering a PCL injury against Melbourne back in Round 6.

And finally, Lloyd Perris (knee) and Lewis Melican (groin) are making steady progress also with Perris back to full training while Melican is still one or two weeks away from resuming full intensity training.
