Swans coach John Longmire touched on the extremely high standards midfielder Josh Kennedy sets himself week in week out.

The 27-year-old averages 27 disposals in 2015, 24 over his 146-game career, and is alongside Dan Hannebery the Swans’ most consistent performer this season.

And, arguably, one of competition’s most consistent as well.

“His form over the last few weeks has been alright but he’s very hard on himself,” Longmire said.

On Thursday night, Josh Kennedy was at his brilliant best and shone in the Swans’ 10-point win over Port Adelaide at the SCG.

Not just shone but rose to those incredibly lofty standards.

Kennedy gathered 33 disposals (17 contested) and helped with the grunt work by laying eight tackles.

On a night without firepower in Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett, Kennedy had nine forward 50 entries and impacted the scoreboard with two goals.

“Joey really stood up tonight, he’s a quality player and really led from the front,” Longmire added.

“He competed really well and in that particular part of the ground, when we needed to get the ball moving forward, he was able to do that which was crucial.”

It was another, as teammate Sam Reid described on Friday, “complete performance” by the “inside machine” against an opposition Kennedy loves playing against.

Kennedy averages 26 possessions against the Power so Thursday night’s effort was almost meant to be.

And, as a sign of things to come, as the Swans prepare to take on Brisbane at the Gabba, Kennedy also averages 26 touches against the Lions.
