Sydney Swans coach John Longmire has congratulated premiership player Adam Schneider on a wonderful AFL career.

Schneider, 31, today announced his 228th AFL match against the Swans this Sunday, would be his last.

“All premiership players hold a very special place at their clubs,” Longmire said.

“In five seasons at the Swans he played in two grand finals, and as one of the youngest players in the team, was an important part of the 2005 premiership.

“Fans always love players who can run and excite like Adam. He is a very smart footballer and always dangerous around goal.

“Everyone associated with the Swans congratulate him on a great career, which he has continued with the Saints,” he said.

From Osborne in New South Wales - near Wagga Wagga - Schneider was recruited to the Swans with pick 60 in the 2001 national draft.

He made his AFL debut in 2003 and went on to play a total of 98 matches for the Swans, booting 99 goals.
