Ben McGlynn and Craig Bird’s comeback trails will roll on this weekend, either in the NEAFL Swans’ elimination final on Saturday or in the senior side’s final home and away clash of 2015.

McGlynn and Bird, who have battled soft tissue injuries of late, were standouts in the NEAFL side’s 20-point win against Aspley.

McGlynn gathered 23 disposals and booted a goal in his first game for four weeks while Bird, upping his game time on the previous week, won 24 possessions in the Swans’ 12.13 (83) to 9.11 (65) triumph at Graham Rd Oval in Carseldine

Both played about 80-90 minutes of game time in a genuine arm-wrestle which saw the Swans overcome a narrow three-quarter-time deficit in windy conditions to run away with their 12th win of the season.

Asked about the pair following the Swans’ big win over St Kilda on Sunday, Swans coach John Longmire said the final decision will be made later in the week whether they’ll be in the mix for Round 23 against Gold Coast or feature in the NEAFL again.

MATCH REPORT: Swans soar to three in a row

“We need a squad of players this time of year and we need to make sure those guys are playing good footy as well,” Longmire said.

“Ben might be a chance but he might need another run in the twos as well. He had a run (on Saturday) with Birdy and few other boys so we’ll wait and see.”

Aliir Aliir and Harry Marsh were also among the best as was Round 21 debutant James Rose in the wake of being an “unluckily” omission from the senior side.

Swans locked away fifth spot on the NEAFL ladder and a second go at reigning premier Aspley, this time with plenty on the line.

Last year’s grand finalists will clash in the second semi-final, with the fourth-placed Hornets earning the home ground privileges.

Saturday’s clash was the two sides’ only hit out of the season and first since the Hornets clinched the 2014 grand final by two points.
