Swans coach John Longmire will leave Lance Franklin to his own devices on Saturday night, saying more game time will be vital to the star forward’s finals campaign.

After surprising Franklin with a third quarter substitution in last weekend’s clash against St Kilda – a strategic move to give Franklin’s troublesome back a rest – Longmire stated no such move will be made at the SCG against Gold Coast.

Managing seven disposals and a goal in his first game in more than a month, Franklin looked shocked and displeased wearing the red vest but will be given almost all of the 120 minutes to give that back a workout in the Swans’ final tune up on Saturday night.

Longmire stressed the importance of exposing Franklin to as much game time as possible before the Swans’ first final.

“He needs to play a full game this week,” Longmire said.

“I don’t think he was too ecstatic to put the red vest on last week so he’ll be keen to start the game and finish the game on a strong note.

“He’ll be in the 21.”

It seems Gary Rohan will also stay clear of the sub’s vest after the speedster started in green and replaced Franklin during the third quarter against St Kilda.

Longmire was keen to get as many miles into Rohan’s knee as possible, stating how important the forward’s work rate was to the team’s structure.

“Gary is probably one of the better pressure forwards going around,” he said.

“That’s been an important part of our game, when we haven’t had him we’ve missed him a little bit. We’re looking forward to him playing a full game and applying his best.”

Ben McGlynn was another Longmire wanted to see running around in the forward line but conceded there’s still a bit of work to be done to ensure the 151-gamer’s fit and ready to be selected for senior football.

McGlynn returned from injury last weekend for the NEAFL Swans, playing about 80-90 minutes and is set to play a full game when the Swans meet Aspley in the first second semi-final in Brisbane on Saturday.
