Swans ball magnet Josh Kennedy about to reach rarefied air

Josh Kennedy is on the verge of achieving a record which has escaped nearly all of the great modern midfielders, further highlighting his standing as one of the game's best onballers of the decade.

In a season where Nathan Fyfe has taken the limelight and dominated Brownlow betting, Kennedy has again slipped under the radar with his continued excellence.

If the Sydney ball magnet can extend his rare run of form for another week by reaching 30 possessions against Gold Coast, he will become just the second player to have done so in 10 consecutive games since stats were officially collated by Champion Data in 1999.

It is a record that proved beyond the likes of Gary Ablett, Chris Judd and Michael Voss. Only Dane Swan has managed the feat, first in 2010 when Collingwood won the flag and the following year in his Brownlow-winning season.

Swans put scores on the board for a chance in September

You'd have thought the football world might have wised up after a decade or so, but once again Sydney might have pulled off the season's greatest confidence trick.

On the eve of the finals, the Swans are as well-positioned as ever for a genuine tilt at a premiership, a top-four spot secured should they dispense with Gold Coast on Saturday. And yet again, they've done it without anyone really noticing.

It's become a recurring theme, but in 2015, a sleight of hand executed with even more panache than usual.

The Swans had their usual quota of impressive early season wins, then dropped enough games to raise a few doubts. The rebound that followed was hardly spectacular. Then came a loss to Richmond, and in successive weeks, thrashings at the hands of Hawthorn and West Coast.

Sydney's flag chances ballooned out to $11 only a couple of weeks ago, and they're still at a longer price than Hawthorn, West Coast or Fremantle.

Adam Goodes could be playing his last game at the SCG

IF you’re a Swans fan and you’re wondering whether it’s worth attending Saturday’s regular season finisher against Gold Coast, consider this — it could be Adam Goodes’ last game at the SCG.

The dual premiership player is reluctant to draw any more attention to himself because debate will be reignited if he makes a retirement announcement.
