The curtains drew on Rhyce Shaw’s time in the red and white on Friday night, but not without one last tribute to his growing legacy.

Shaw was acknowledged for his valuable service to the Sydney Swans during this year’s Club Champion Dinner by winning the Barry Round Shield as Best Clubman for 2015.

It was the 33-year-old’s second Barry Round Shield after taking out the award in 2011.

Shaw, who announced his retirement on the eve of the finals, played 143 games over seven seasons with the Swans plus an initial 94 matches with Collingwood.

Shaw became immersed in the Swans’ culture shortly after arriving in 2008 and it was noticed after the dashing defender was voted into the leadership group in his first pre-season under the direction of then coach Paul Roos.

Shaw’s influence and leadership year after year since, particularly on the Club’s youth and newest recruits, has played a crucial role in driving the Swans’ recent success.

Shaw’s final match, following the semi-final loss to North Melbourne, ended on the shoulders of fellow defenders Ted Richards and Heath Grundy with both teams forming a guard of honour as the veteran was carried off ANZ Stadium.
