The Swans’ first to fourth year players returned for day one of preseason training, fit and firing ahead of another gruelling summer campaign.

Warm conditions bathed Lakeside Oval where the squad tackled a series of full ground drills before lacing up the runners and sprinting laps in a race against the clock.

It didn’t stop there with the coaches then putting the group through another set of drills to test the players’ decision making and skills under fatigue.

New recruits Callum Sinclair, Michael Talia and Colin O’Riordan impressed while there were a few surprise participants.

Experienced trio Jarrad McVeigh, Josh Kennedy and Kurt Tippett joined in eight days ahead of schedule in a bid to support the younger boys and get a jump on the rest of the senior squad.

Isaac Heeney, who is continuing his steady recovery from off-season surgery, was confined to running laps but powered through the session alongside the reigning Bob Skilton Medallist.

Alex Johnson was also there in support just seven days after his latest knee reconstruction which should put him on track for a return in 2016.

Overseeing the action was one new face and some familiar faces but in new roles.

Brett Kirk was down to business during his first official day as assistant coach while Rhyce Shaw and John Blakey were notable voices as development coaches.

Preseason training continues on Wednesday.
