A squadron of Swans stars were welcomed aboard naval vessel HMAS Canberra ahead of the weekend's clash with West Coast.

Luke Parker, Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery, Dane Rampe and Isaac Heeney were given a tour of the Australian Royal Navy's flagship on Tuesday by Commanding Officer Capt. Chris Smith.

The sheer size of the ship, commissioned in November 2014 and currently anchored at the navy's fleet base east at Woolloomooloo, was felt by the players (and the media scrum following) as they were taken deep inside to the lower and upper decks as well as the bridge where the vessel is controlled.

The group was then led out onto the flight deck where they enjoyed a kick of footy and slightly clouded views of Sydney Harbour.

After some photo opportunities, it was back to the lower decks for a kick-to-kick with officers and a media conference.

The Sydney Swans play West Coast at the SCG on Saturday afternoon as part of the AFL's Anzac Day Round. The clubs will play for the HMAS Sydney II Cup of which the Eagles hold after winning last year's encounter at Domain Stadium.

Six hundred and forty-five sailors were lost when the HMAS Sydney II was sunk off the coast of Western Australia in November, 1941. The ship's wreckage was only discovered in March, 2008.

The initiative - supported by the AFL, the Finding Sydney Foundation and the Royal Australian Navy - began in 2010.
