Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh is in awe of the ability of his teammates to continue to will themselves to win the contested football.

Josh Kennedy (16), Dan Hannebery (14), Luke Parker (14), Kieren Jack (12) and Tom Mitchell (12) all reached double figures for contested possessions.

Despite losing the hit out count the Swans got on top in the clearances finishing the match with 43 compared to the Eagles 32.

McVeigh said the Saturday’s win over the Eagles was driven from the midfield’s group to win the 50-50 contests.

“There were some huge contests that they won along the boundary line to get the ball forward moving for us,” McVeigh said.

“That is what those guys are best at and we are in awe when we are watching them do it.”

McVeigh said his side would be looking to replicate the same pressure and intensity around the football against Brisbane next weekend.

“We have an extended break which is nice so we look to get up there and keep the ball rolling because we think we are in good form.”

“At the moment what we do stands up.”

The Swans have an extended eight day break before taking on the Lions at the Gabba next Sunday.
