James Rose says consistency is the key to winning back a prized spot in the Sydney Swans’ senior team.

Rose is among a bevy of AFL-listed players vying for a place in the 6-1 side including like-for-like teammates Dean Towers and Brandon Jack.

Fresh from a promising performance (two goals and 15 disposals) in the win over Gold Coast on Saturday, Rose has been pleased with his form but stressed another AFL game would have to be earned the hard way.

“It’s all about finding that consistency for me and building on that form,” Rose said.

“The coaching staff have set me a few tasks to work such as building my defensive pressure in the forward line and locking the ball in.

“Hopefully I can find some form and press for senior selection in the coming weeks.”

Rose couldn’t speak highly enough of his experienced teammates who spearheaded the 65-point win at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Jack pressed his case for a recall, collecting 30 disposals and kicking three goals in a best-on-ground performance against Gold Coast, while Dean Towers was also a strong contributor (28 disposals, 10 inside 50s).

With Dan Robinson under an injury cloud, the door suddenly opens for someone to come into a side hungry for a seventh win of the season, against Richmond at the MCG.

“BJ, he’s played a few senior games obviously so you know what you’re going to get from him every week,” Rose said.

“I’m sure when his time comes he’ll play his role and play his role very well.

“Deano is (also) in that mix. He has been a bit unlucky this season with no injuries and the form of the senior team. I’m sure he’ll be back in and roaring pretty soon.

The NEAFL Swans will look to extend their streak to six-straight wins in Saturday’s meeting with the Canberra Demons who are without a win so far in season 2016.

Despite the winless start, Shaw’s men won’t be taking the newly formed club for granted.

“The boys are really clicking at the moment, it’s not so much confidence and form, it’s about us knowing the structures and where we all sit within the team,” Rose added.

“At the end of the day that’s what wins games of football.

“We don’t know what to expect (from Canberra) so we have to keep our preparation the same as if we were playing anyone else.

“We’re on the road again (for the fourth time in seven weeks) so it’s a good chance to bond as a team.”
