Kurt Tippett is enjoying his best start to a season since joining the Sydney Swans, as he embraces his new role as the number one ruckman.

In his first seven matches this season the 203cm big man has averaged 27 hit outs and 14 disposals – and his impact has not been limited to the midfield, with 11 goals to Tippett’s name.

“Continuity wise it has been great,” he said.

“I had been able to play a pretty full year last year, have a good summer and then the start of this year has gone pretty well.”

The No. 8, who celebrated his 29th birthday last weekend, has taken over the main ruck role following the retirement of premiership ruckman Mike Pyke at the end of last season.

“I think it is the best start I have had to a season for a while,” Tippett said.

“I enjoy starting in the middle, as there is something about being in that centre circle for the first bounce of the game. You are always around the football and you can have a real impact.

“I am enjoying playing some good football and just trying to contribute each week.”

Tippett has formed a new partnership this season with former West Coast ruckman Callum Sinclair who joined the Swans during the trade period.

“I think we have seen what Cal can do – he is a great player and we complement each other well,” Tippett said.

“He doesn’t mind going in the middle to play in the ruck, and at that time I get a chance to go forward or have a rest, so I think that is going well for the side.”
