Sydney Swans chief executive and managing director Andrew Ireland says the Club is continuing to push ahead with plans to build a new training and administration base.

The Club has been working behind the scenes to secure a new facility for the last 18 months.

Ireland said the building would be world class and was one of the key priorities for the Club off the field in 2017.

“The reality is our facilities are getting too small, we struggle in the area that we are in at the SCG but fortunately up to this stage our performance on the field has not been impacted,” Ireland said at Wednesday night's Season Launch.

“We understand that we need to do something to get into better facilities in the near future and we understand that is going to come with a big bill.

“It is important for us to get the new facilities because the reality is the AFL is such a competitive environment.”

The project is set to get strong backing from the Sydney Swans Foundation who will contribute a significant amount to the fundraising efforts towards the facility.

Ireland said staying close to the current club base at the SCG was also a key factor in the new building.

“We hope to have it in the Moore Park vicinity,” Ireland said.

“It is important for us to stay close to the SCG and we think it is where our home will be best placed but we still do have some work to do to finalise where that base will be.”

“There is a lot of work being done and we are hopeful that it can be done shortly.”
