Sam Mostyn’s appointment to the Sydney Swans’ Board of Directors headlined Thursday night’s Annual General Meeting.

The appointment, originally reported in December, was officially ratified by chairman Andrew Pridham if front of fellow committeemen and members at the annual meeting held at the SCG.

Mostyn joins Alexandra Goodfellow as the second female member on the Sydney Swans’ Board of Directors.

Greg Paramor and Rob Pascoe were re-appointed unopposed while Andrew McMaster officially retired following his 22 years of service as deputy chairman.

“I would like to thank my fellow directors for their unwavering support and commitment to the club,” Pridham said. “They all provide their time and expertise on a pro bono basis and play a significant role in the success of the Sydney Swans.”

Meanwhile, Pridham confirmed the Sydney Swans’ sixth consecutive year in the green with the Club recording a net profit of $53,224.

The profit was impacted by the substantial compensation payments to ANZ Stadium, required to bring all home games back to the SCG a year earlier than contracted.

Pridham highlighted the 15-percent increase in membership last season, taking the total number to a club record of 56,523 by year’s end.

The addition of three more games at the SCG increased average crowds from 31,528 to 33,425.

The Swans’ Round 17 clash with Hawthorn drew a crowd of 42,314, the third largest crowd ever to watch an AFL game at the SCG and the highest at the venue since 1997.

Now in its eighth year, the QBE Sydney Swans Academy was also high on the agenda with Pridham vindicating the investment in the program.

The Swans invest one million dollars each year in the Academy.

“Whilst the cost is significant, we believe it is an important investment into the development of players, coaches and fan engagement in NSW,” he said.

“We are seeing the results, in part in our growing membership, especially junior and first time members.”
