The Sydney Swans will be without former co-captains Kieren Jack and Jarrad McVeigh for Saturday afternoon’s match against Carlton at the MCG.

Jack has been ruled out to recover from a hip injury that has hampered his start to the season, while McVeigh is continuing his training program after recovering from a calf injury.

Head of Football Tom Harley said McVeigh is nearing a senior return.

“Jarrad is ruled out in the sense that he won’t play,” Harley told the HCF injury update.

“He hasn’t had any setbacks, he was just a little bit tight at the end of last week in his hamstring.

“In his calf – where he has had challenges – he is ok so, we will give Jarrad another week and he will train fully and be available, all things being equal, next weekend.”

Meanwhile veteran defender Heath Grundy has been cleared of any serious damage after a collision with Giants forward Jeremy Cameron on Saturday night.

“Everyone would have seen the nasty bump and thankfully it looked a lot worse than what it actually was,” Harley said.

“He (Grundy) was cleared to play from a concussion sense and he had a scan after the game to clear him of any structural damage.

“He will be fine to play against the Blues on Saturday.”
