The Sydney Swans will battle it out for a top four spot when they take on Hawthorn at the SCG on Saturday night.

After winning three games in a row to sew up a ninth consecutive finals berth the Swans turn their attention to Saturday night’s blockbuster.

The winner set to lock themselves into the top four and a double chance come September.

Midfielder Luke Parker said the side had to focus on their strengths to turn around poor form which resulted in consecutive losses to Gold Coast and Essendon.

“We were taking full responsibility for what was happening on game day and that was a lot of little things like skill errors, defensive running patterns and even offensive running patterns,” Parker told 3AW

“We looked at those three areas of the game and really honed in on the basics of what we needed to get right then the rest flows from there.”

“That is the mind-set we have been going into our games with.”

Tom McCartin, Will Hayward and Tom Papley continue to make up the nucleus of the Swans forward line alongside superstar Lance Franklin.

Parker said the performance of the sides young forward line had been a highlight for the entire season.

“We are giving them a lot of confidence to play with that enthusiasm and energy,” Parker said.

“They need to understand that is what they bring to the team, it doesn’t matter that they have played under 30 games but they are all such influential players who can turn a game on their own boot.

“For us it is about giving them confidence so that they know what they are capable of and not taking a backwards step waiting for the leaders to take charge.

“You want your good players playing well and the other players getting on board as well so it has been really good.”
