Isaac Heeney's bid for a senior recall starts this weekend after the emerging forward was named in Saturday's NEAFL clash against Gold Coast.

Heeney, left out of Sydney's Round 16 encounter with Geelong, will make his way back through the NEAFL when the Swans take on the Suns at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The 20-year-old had played 28 AFL matches before having the week's break. He'll play his first NEAFL game since coming back from a knee injury towards the latter end of last season.

NEAFL Swans coach Rhyce Shaw says Heeney should be "rested and raring to go".

"It will be good to give Isaac some quality game time," Shaw said.

"He'll spend a bit of time in the midfield and all we're looking for is for him to play his role. He'll play full minutes and there won't be any restrictions on him in that regard.

"Sometimes we forget that your Heeney's and Mills' are still only young and need the time off if they can get it.

"He should be raring to go and primed for a good game to put his name up for senior selection again."

Heeney joins James Rose and Tom Derickx as replacements for Ben McGlynn (seniors), Jeremy Laidler (hamstring), Lewis Melican (hamstring).

QBE Sydney Swans Academy trio Nathan Cooper, Ben Davis and Jake Brown come in for forward duo Matt Wilson and Ned Reinhard.

The NEAFL Swans will aim for a fourth consecutive win and 13th overall in season 2016, while the Suns are coming off three-straight wins.

Despite being decimated by injury at AFL level, Shaw says even an undermanned Gold Coast can still pose a threat to the Swans' winning ways.

"Gold Coast's injuries have been well documented and obviously hurts the reserves," Shaw added.

"But it's always a challenge coming up against other AFL clubs, and the Suns are no exception. They're a talented outfit and in good form.

"We're looking forward to the game."
