Sydney Swans co-captain Kieren Jack has moved into outright second place in the voting for the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award following the conclusion of round 15.

Jack received a total of nine votes off coaches John Longmire and Neil Craig for his performance in the Swans’ 31-point win over Melbourne at the MCG last Sunday.

While younger brother Brandon might have upstaged him in the goals column with four, the elder Jack lead from the front for the Swans, gathering 31 disposals, 10 inside 50s, seven clearances, three goal assists and booted a goal of his own.

Fellow co-captain Jarrad McVeigh moved into the Award's top ten after he received the next highest amount of votes with seven after he picked up an equal game-high 33 touches, while Josh Kennedy who also had 33 possessions – 20 of which were contested – plus 12 clearances was awarded five votes.

Nick Malceski (three votes), Ryan O’Keefe (two) and Tom Mitchell (one) were the other Swans players who shared in the minor votes, while Dean Terlich and Jack Fitzpatrick picked up votes for Melbourne.

With current leader Gary Ablett missing last round with a calf injury, Jack closed the gap on the Gold Coast star to 13 votes, with Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield the next best currently in third position.
