Sydney Swans defender Nick Smith says he’s looking forward to finally getting into game mode again.

Smith will line up in Friday evening’s intra-club match at Henson Park for the club’s first official hit-out of the new season.

After completing another gruelling pre-season program, Smith said he and his teammates can’t wait to lace up the boots again for a proper match.

“I’m really looking forward to the intra-club match,” he said.

“Pre-season has been pretty long and after the way we finished last year, I know all of the boys are looking forward to it and running around on the park again.

“We want to make sure that we’re ready for Brisbane in Coffs Harbour the following week.

“It’s really important that we have a good hit-out and we really want to hit the ground running next week.”

Smith said Swans fans could expect to see a great contest between one another and may notice a few players in different areas of the ground.

“There’s been an extra level of competitiveness this year in training so I’d expect that to come through in the practice match.

“We’ve definitely tinkered with a few guys playing all around the place; Sammy Reid’s been playing back a little bit, Lewis Jetta’s played back a little bit and a few other things so I’d expect that to happen in the game.”

The intra-club match is not the only big event on this week with the Swans Fan Day taking place on Sunday at the Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park.

Smith said the Fan Day would cap off a great week for the club which also included a two-day community camp throughout New South Wales.

“Swans Fan Day starts at 10am, it’d be great to get some people along to that, there’ll be plenty activities (for supporters) and it will be good to present the team,” Smith said.
