Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper chats through our injury update ahead of our Round 7 match against Brisbane Lions at the SCG on Sunday.

General overview v Hawthorn

It was a hotly contested game on Monday against Hawthorn. We had a few players sustain corks but nothing too significant. Overall, the players have recovered really well and we now have a six-day break leading into our game against the Brisbane Lions on Sunday at the SCG.

Paddy McCartin sustained a head knock in the third quarter and was substituted out of the game after undergoing an HIA assessment. Fortunately, Paddy reported no symptoms during the game and suffered no ill-effects post game.  Paddy will now be managed through the AFL concussion protocols as we monitor his return to training and playing. Likewise, Logan McDonald sustained a head knock in a marking contested in the fourth quarter and he will return to play under the AFL concussion guidelines also.

Angus Sheldrick

Angus Sheldrick sustained a knee injury in Round 3 of the VFL. After a review with a specialist, he had a minor surgery and will undergo a period of rehabilitation up until the mid-season bye.

Tom Papley

Tom Papley is training really well at the moment and trained strongly last week. If all goes to plan, he will be available for selection this week.

Tom Hickey

Tom Hickey is going quite well. He is working through some agility progressions and some football skills at the moment. It’s looking like he is ahead of schedule and we’re really happy with this progress so far.

Joel Amartey and Matt Roberts (concussion)

Joel Amartey and Matt Roberts are recovering well from their respective concussion injuries and they will test for their availability this weekend.

Robbie Fox

Robbie Fox is going well with his hamstring strain. He is running fast an completing modified team skills and will do some repeat testing with our physiotherapy team this week and will aim to start training with the main group next week before determining a return to play.
