Round 2 vs Collingwood

Sunday September 4

Victoria Park, 1.10pm

Coach Scott Gowans has made two changes to the Sydney Swans AFLW team to face Collingwood in Round 2 at Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon.

Kate Reynolds and Sarah Ford will make their AFLW debuts coming into the team for Montana Ham (knee) and Sarah Dargan (omitted). The number one draft pick, Ham, will miss 3-4 weeks with a knee strain sustained in the Swans 29-point loss to the Saints in Round 1.

A Sydney local, Reynolds was a late addition to the inaugural Swans squad, replacing Montana Beruldsen on the list just a week ago.

Gowans said the 24-year old ruck will bring plenty of attributes to the side, with her ability to play a multi-facet role an important feature to her game.

"I first noticed Kate in the AFLW Summer Series playing for the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and then the Winter Series too," Gowans said.

"She is a tall ruck, she is actually the tallest ruck in the competition and her ability to contest is what I really like about Kate. She's the type of player that plays a lot more like that midfield role than a ruck.

"She is good at getting around the ground and impact contest which is something I thought we lacked last week. This helps Ally Morphett a bit and gives her a bit of a chop out and lets us play Bella Smith up forward or down back."

Another Swan making her first appearance in the AFLW is Sarah Ford, who moved to Sydney from Victoria in her childhood years, played in the Sydney Premier League for the East Coast Eagles before returning to her home state and developing her craft at Essendon in their VFL side last season.

"I noticed Sarah last year and kept my eye on her," Gowans said.

"She is a small inside midfielder, very crafty and can find the outside quite easy. She is also a great athlete. Playing at Victoria Park which is a big ground, we thought we could use some extra speed which Sarah will offer."

The Swans face a tough task for their first away trip with Collingwood coming off a Round 1 victory over Carlton.

"It's a hard venue to win at, they are very successful there and it will be a massive challenge" Gowans said

"I think from our perspective we want to play our style of footy, we feel we went away from that last week a little bit. We can expect some effort and intensity at the contest and then to be able to shift the ball to the outside."

The match kicks off at 1.10pm on Sunday September 4 at Victoria Park and will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo Sports.
