The Sydney Swans welcome forward Laura Gardiner to the red and white after securing a trade with the Geelong Cats, who will receive Pick 1 of the AFLW Season Eight Supplementary Draft.

After debuting with Geelong in AFLW Season 5, Gardiner has showcased her ball-winning ability and fearless tackle pressure across her 18 AFLW appearances to date.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a stellar VFLW season for Geelong in 2021, breaking the record for most disposals in a game - amassing an incredible 49 possessions against Port Melbourne.

She won the club's VFLW Best and Fairest Award that same year, before averaging 10.2 disposals in her 10 AFLW games last season.

Executive General Manager of Football - AFLW, Kate Mahony, says she is delighted to welcome a player of Gardiner's experience and calibre to the club.

"We're thrilled to have Laura joining our club. She has been in the AFLW system for a few seasons now and her experience will no doubt have a big impact on our young playing group," Mahony said.

"We look forward to officially welcoming her to Sydney and seeing her don the red and white in the upcoming season."

Gardiner joins Chloe Molloy, Lucy McEvoy and Irish trio Paris McCarthy, Jennifer Higgins, and Julie O'Sullivan as fresh faces on the Swans AFLW list, all having joined during the AFLW Sign and Trade period which concludes on Monday at 5pm.
