Former Swans assistant coach Ian Thorogood has died at the age of 82.
Thorogood served South Melbourne as assistant coach from 1969-1972 under the legendary Norm Smith.
It was in an era when there was only one assistant coach who was handpicked and trusted.
He was a key part of the Swans first finals appearance in 25 years in 1970.
Thorogood came from strong football credentials. A half-back for Melbourne, he played in 93 games from 1957-1962 including three premierships.
After departing the Swans, Thorogood went on to become senior coach of the Carlton Football Club, coaching the club in 44 games from 1976-1977.
