It’s not every day that you win a car on FaceTime, but for 20-year Swans member Adam it was a welcome surprise.
Sydney Swans Major Partner Volkswagen handed the keys to a new Polo to the lucky Victorian-based member this week after he was entered into the club’s annual competition.
Unable to attend Sydney Swans Fan Day, presented by Volkswagen, Adam who was hosting his son’s 12th birthday participated at the giveaway on a FaceTime call with Swans staff. He correctly selected James Rowbottom, who was given a set of keys at random, and successfully unlocked the car.
“I happened to be celebrating my son’s 12th birthday, so we had some family around which was fantastic,” he told Sydney Swans Media.
“We understood that it was going to be 10 players with 10 different remotes. I spoke about with my younger sons, who were 12 and eight, about if a certain player was there, who would we pick,” he explained.
Adam has been a member for roughly two decades, after a childhood barracking for South Melbourne and is now a regular at Swans away games. He decided to select Rowbottom if he were in attendance and as the second-last participant he was lucky to select the midfielder’s keys.
“I've always had a love of the Grunt-type player, like James Rowbottom. And we decided about 10 days before the draw that if James Rowbottom was there, we'd choose him, whether it be first pick or last pick.
“It was great to have all my family around at the time and celebrate it. It's a pretty surreal feeling at the time and still a bit pinching myself.”
