Sydney Swans coach Dean Cox has made just one change to his side to take on Brisbane in Saturday afternoon’s Qualifying Final at the SCG.

Key forward Hayden McLean comes into the side to replace developing ruckman Will Green, who hasn’t put a foot wrong in his short AFL career to date.

McLean, the more experienced option for finals, gives Cox the flexibility to play him in ruck or up forward. He has played 10 senior matches in 2026, the last being in the Swans 97-point win over Port Adelaide.

Cox considered recalling speedster Justin McInerney and key forward Joel Amartey but decided against it due to their time out of the game with injuries.

“They’re just probably a little bit short. We spoke about them at length,” Cox said.

“Obviously Justin was a little bit behind Joel, and the reason with Joel was just to get another training session into him.

“He’s (Amartey) missed almost three months of footy, so we took the opportunity to get him right as well as we can, and as safely as we possibly can.

Cox said the message to his players has been clear, as they prepare for the reigning premiers.

“To embrace the challenge. Really excited to get to the SCG to play in front of our faithful and the loud red and white, can’t wait to see that,” Cox said.

“On top of that to really challenge Brisbane. They’ve been in great form for a number of years but especially the last couple of months.

“We learnt a lot from the Brisbane game when we played up there and took some big steps against North Melbourne and trained really hard over the past two weeks to get ready for it.

The Swans take on Brisbane at 3.15pm on Saturday afternoon at the SCG.
