Jevan Phillipou has furthered his development during a successful VFL campaign, which saw the Sydney Swans reach the Elimination Final after finishing 7th in the home-and-away season.

“I think both levels got a really good taste of finals, and both took it a fair way, so from a team perspective it was pretty successful,” Phillipou said.

“Individually I feel like I've had a lot of growth both on and off the field, and I think I knew that coming into the Swans that that's how it would go, which is great, I'm really pleased.”

The medium forward played in all 20 of the VFL games this season. The 18 year old went on to kick 41 goals including five in Sydney’s 133-point win over Sandringham Dragons, and record 263 disposals and 75 marks across the season.

“I think coming into a professional environment you get a good taste of what's expected of you, how you need to carry yourself, what you need to do to play,” Phillipou said.

“I was really, really motivated and driven to try and get the most out of myself this season and whilst I didn't play an AFL game, I feel like I made some serious inroads in my own development, which was great. It was nice to kick some goals, but I've still got a lot to work on.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 season, Phillipou is focused on improving one specific aspect of his game, in what will hopefully earn him a call-up into the senior side.

“The main one is probably just consistency, whether that's with my football or with my training, whatever it is, just be consistent with whatever I'm doing, and hopefully results will come,” Phillipou said.
