Sydney coach John Longmire lauded his side’s ability to maintain high pressure, ultimately leading to their victory against North Melbourne in Round 3.

The Swans were eager to return to the winner’s list this week, with a strong showing against the Kangaroos of high intensity and attacking play to seal a win.

Whilst North Melbourne were quick out of the blocks, the Swans were quick to bounce back and control the tempo as the match progressed, securing an 11 point victory over the Roos - 10.11 (71) to 8.12 (60).

Coach John Longmire praised his side’s high pressure, and ability to attenuate that of North Melbourne in what he thought was a “strong win.”

“North Melbourne are the number one pressure team in the comp, so they jumped out of the blocks really well,” Longmire said.

“So it’s a matter of making sure you absorb that and keep going, which is what we did.”

“Our 3rd quarter pressure was at a really high level for us, and everything else is built off the back of that."

Longmire was pleased by a more consistent effort across the game shown by his squad, noting the importance of winning 50/50 contests.

“We were certainly better at that (consistency) today, and it really makes a difference when you break even or win in those contests,” Longmire said.

Swans’ stand out Ollie Florent (22 Disposals) also caught the eye of the Head-coach, Longmire touching on the unique and versatile game-style he brings to the table.

“We really like what he gives us, he’s got a great boot, he’s hard and he’s a really smart player,” Longmire said.

With a young list at his disposal, Longmire shared his excitement for seeing the development of Florent, as well as players such as James Rowbottom and Will Hayward.

“We’re confident in that group coming through, we still need to compete and perform on a weekly basis, but we’re giving them plenty of opportunities to come through and do that.
