The Sydney Swans and Addi Road are coming together to collect ‘Cans for a Cause’ to help communities affected by the recent floods across NSW.

A collection of non-perishable food will be made at Sydney’s Round 4 match against North Melbourne at the SCG on Saturday April 9.

Match attendees will be encouraged to bring a can of goods, such as canned vegetables, legumes, meat, fish, and fruit, to donate at two pink Addi Road tents, which will be located in the Sydney Swans Fan Zone on Driver Ave. Patrons can also scan the QR codes around the ground and make a donation to the flood appeal.

Addi Road, an organisation which stands in solidarity with diverse communities in times of need, is closely connected to the local communities affected by the floods. Addi Road are listening to those impacted and responding to those needs.

Truckloads of food, household essentials and clean up supplies are being sent to three distribution hubs in Lismore, set up by Addi Road’s transport and logistics partner, Turbans 4 Australia. Two warehouses receive deliveries and redistribute essentials to those who need them, plus there is a mobile kitchen to cook and supply hot meals, supplemented by grocery packs for people who have access to cooking facilities.

In the first week of distribution Addi Road contributed $7,000 worth of pasta, noodles, pasta sauce, and flour to be cooked into meals, along with UHT milk, coffee, tea, biscuits, hand sanitiser and bottled water, plus $7,000 for fuel for the trucks going to and from Sydney to Lismore.

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said Addi Road is doing some wonderful work to assist those in flood affected areas.

“The scenes in New South Wales have been incredibly heartbreaking and as a football club and a wider football community we want to help,” Harley said.

“We are grateful to be able to team up with Addi Road, who do some incredible work in the community, and we encourage all our members and fans to donate cans at our Round 4 game and help get much needed supplies to those who need them.”

Fans who cannot get to the game are also encouraged to make a donation to the Sydney Swans and Addi Road Flood Appeal here.
