Gary Rohan returned to Swans training on Monday but coach John Longmire said it would be up to the forward whether he played against the Adelaide Crows on Friday.

The 26-year-old missed Saturday’s seven-point win over the Western Bulldogs that came just two days after his wife Amie gave birth to twin daughters, one of whom lived for just five hours.

Their second child, Willow, was born with the fatal brain condition anencephaly, which doctors had diagnosed back in November.

‘‘We don’t expect anything at the moment – we’re certainly not going to make any grand statements on a Monday, we’ll just see how we go,’’ Longmire said. ‘‘Obviously he and Amie have had some challenging moments last week and also had some exciting moments as well.

‘‘They really appreciated what [Western Bulldogs coach] Luke Beveridge said after the game and commented on how the whole football community really comes together as one whether they’re supporters, clubs, coaches, players in challenging times. Unfortunately we’ve experienced it a couple of times now and there’s no better spot to be than in the AFL industry,’’ he said.

Taking it one day at a time

Gary Rohan is back at Sydney and could be a chance to play against Adelaide at the SCG.

The speedy utility missed last Saturday’s game against the Western Bulldogs in Melbourne, which fell two days after the birth of his twin daughters, only one of whom survived.

Rohan returned to the SCG yesterday and took part in a skills session.

While his appearance fuelled suggestions he could face the Crows on Friday, Sydney coach John Longmire said: “We don’t expect anything at the moment. We’ll just take it one day at a time and see how it goes.

“We’re certainly not going to make any grand statements on a Monday.

“Obviously he and (his wife) Amie have had some challenging moments last week and also had some exciting moments as well.

“He and Amie are going really well considering the challenges they had last week and we and they really appreciated what (Bulldogs coach) Luke Beveridge said after the game.”
