Sydney Swans forward Tom Papley has indicated his desire to move back to Melbourne with Carlton his preferred club as the Telstra AFL trade period gets underway.

Papley has four years to run on a contract after an incentive trigger was enacted late in the season.

The 23-year-old has kicked 120 goals from 82 games for the Swans over the last four seasons.

CEO Tom Harley said that at this stage Papley remained a required player with the Club.

“We know he has a desire to get to Melbourne and as part of that desire to get to Melbourne his preference is Carlton,” Harley told Telstra Trade Radio.

“As it stands right now there hasn’t been any conversations between us and any other club as to what that might look like.

“Our position is that Tom is a contracted player to us and plays but he has indicated he would like to get to Melbourne and that being the case you would expect some Melbourne clubs to come and chat to us.”

The trade period commenced on Monday morning with all Clubs meeting at Marvel Stadium and will continue until the deadline at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 16.
