Joel Amartey and Logan McDonald stepped up as Sydney belted Hawthorn by 81 points for a second straight win to start the season on Sunday.

McDonald (five goals) and Amartey (four) combined for nine goals in Lance Franklin's absence as the Swans recorded a 17.16 (118) to 4.13 (37) victory at the SCG.

The duo was dominant throughout as Sydney controlled the contest from the outset to make it two wins from two.

Callum Mills (28 disposals and two goals), Luke Parker (27 and one) and Errol Gulden (28 disposals) led the way in the midfield for the Swans.

Will Day (26 disposals) and Dylan Moore (23 and a goal) battled hard for the Hawks.

It was all Amartey and McDonald from the start as they kicked two goals each in the first term and, while both teams squandered opportunities it was Sydney in control.

That pair was causing the Hawks all sorts of problems and Amartey slotted his third after a strong mark from a McDonald setup kick early in the second, and he banged through a fourth as Hawthorn's sloppiness continued to get punished.

The Hawks swung Blake Hardwick forward to start the second half, but the Swans were in command, kicking five unanswered goals in the third quarter as McDonald started to take charge.

With Amartey returning from injury, he was subbed at three-quarter time, but that didn't stop McDonald, who slotted his fifth to begin the final term, with the Swans' run of 13 straight goals then finally broken.

Papley flies high over two
He grew into the game in a big win and Tom Papley flew high for a tremendous mark early in the last quarter. The small forward climbed over teammate Chad Warner and Hawthorn's Finn Maginness for a hanger. Unfortunately, his finish didn't quite match the mark.
