The Sydney Swans have added more experience to their coaching personnel for the 2023 NAB AFLW season with the appointment of Tanya Hetherington as the club's new forwards coach.

Hetherington brings a wealth of experience to the red and white having forged a successful playing career with the Giants, while also enjoying a variety of coaching roles with former VFLW side Diamond Creek, and more recently with the AFL National Academy Boys and Girls programs, and Calder Cannons Under 18s Girls in the Coates Talent League.

"I'm super excited to be joining the Sydney Swans. It's awesome to come to Sydney and now be part of an up and coming group. I can't wait to be involved," Hetherington said.

“From the outside looking in, you can see how much people love being part of the club. You can see there is something that is growing really strong here. For me, that is something that I’m really excited to be involved in.”

Hetherington's appointment complements an already impressive coaching group, which will again see Scott Gowans take the reigns as head coach.

2005 premiership-winner Nick Davis will also feature as the club's Senior Assistant Coach, while Bronwyn Gulden (backline) will join Hetherington (forwards) as line coach.

Phoebe Carter will round out the coaching panel as AFLW Analyst and Development Coach.

Executive GM of Football – AFLW, Kate Mahony, said everyone on the coaching staff bring their own strengths to the red and white.

"We’re really excited about the upcoming season and have plenty of confidence in our entire coaching staff, including our new addition in Tanya Hetherington,” Mahony said.

“They not only each bring an elite footy IQ, but they have proven to build really strong relationships with their players.

“They also draw on their unique football experiences, and we hope that can have a profound impact on the entire playing group.”

The Swans will begin preparations for the new campaign with pre-season officially commencing on May 29.
