Two QBE Sydney Swans Academy players have been selected in the 2023 AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys All-Australian Team.

Lachlan Carmichael (Mosman Swans) and Noah Chamberlain (Miranda Bombers) were rewarded for their solid National Championships with places in the team. The Swans recorded one victory in their three U16 National Development Championship matches with a 24-point win over cross-town rivals the GWS GIANTS with the Swans duo named in the best performers of that match.

Carmichael is a composed interceptor player across half back who is both strong overhead and creative with his ball use. A prolific ball winner, he averaged 31 disposals (80% efficiency) and eight marks to be a standout player for the Swans Academy. He won the team’s MVP award and finished equal-third in the Pool B Best and Fairest award voting.

Chamberlain is an athletic key forward who presented well as the marking target up forward for the Swans. He took nine contested marks, more than anyone else in the Championships, and kicked six goals across the three matches. A natural left footer, he averaged 14 disposals and seven marks, as well as laying two tackles.

QBE Sydney Swans Academy U16 coach Dean Kelly said both were very worthy recipients and that they have bright futures in the game.

"Throughout the championships Lachlan played across half back and showed his ability to read the play by accumulating a huge amount of disposals and intercept marks," Kelly said.

"He has great decision making with ball in hand and leadership qualities on and off the field.

"Noah consistently was one of the best players in the championship with his strong marking, competitiveness, and mercurial goal kicking ability. He continually kept the side in games with his pressure and leadership."
