Ron Barassi AM is fondly remembered by the Sydney Swans after taking over as coach in 1993, leading the club through its most challenging period.

He coached the Swans for 59 games from 1993 until the end of 1995 and was then a board member for seven seasons.

Ron was the first player inaugurated into the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a 'Legend' and awarded the same status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

In a career spanning from 1953 to 1969, Ron played 254 games, kicked 330 goals, and coached over 500 games. As a player, captain, and coach, Ron appeared in 17 grand finals and won 10 premierships across 4 clubs. A record that has never been matched.

A great believer in giving back, Ron made countless contributions to organisations and causes throughout his life, including all levels of Australian football – women’s grassroots, country and international.

The Victorian State Memorial Service will celebrate Ron’s extraordinary life and the contribution he made not only to AFL, but to the community.
