The Sydney Swans VFL side has made five changes for its clash with Essendon at Windy Hill on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Jarrad McVeigh has named his team, bolstered by the return of several AFL-listed players.

Midfielder Taylor Adams has been named after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Senior Coach Dean Cox explained Taylor Adams would benefit from getting a full game in the VFL under his belt.

"He'll play a full game of VFL, so we spoke about Taylor at the start of the week and he hasn't played footy for a couple of months since his first injury, so it's about trying to get as many minutes as possible into him in the VFL program where it's a little bit more controlled," Cox said.

"So that'll be his approach this week and hopefully be available for AFL selection next week."

Patrick Snell re-joins the side after missing last week with illness, while VFL-listed Tom Hitchens and Willem Smit have also been included.

Former Collingwood VFL player Cooper McDonald signed with the club this week and will play his first match for the red and white.

Midfielder Angus Sheldrick comes out of the side after being named as an emergency for the AFL team.

Essendon comes into the clash with two wins and three losses, and will be looking to bounce back following a 10-point loss against North Melbourne.
